Support the Grocery Program

Did you know that approximately 1,175 people who are HIV positive depend on the supplemental food they receive from the AIDS Vancouver Grocery? Nutrition is of paramount importance to people living with HIV and many of our clients live on very limited income and have inadequate access to fresh food or cooking facilities.

The rising cost of groceries means that people rely more and more on AIDS Vancouver. Our “supplemental” food is fast becoming more often, a main source of sustenance. People who access our Grocery live on less than $20,000 a year and many have much less than this. And hunger can be one of the worst factors in the long term health of people with HIV/AIDS.

In 2008, AIDS Vancouver had 13,156 visits to our Grocery and we gave out 15,100 bags of groceries.  The number of people who need us isn’t declining and the cost of food as well as transportation to our grocery site continues to rise.

We need your help.
  • Did you know that for a one time donation of $40, you could provide milk for 38 people?
  • For $20, twelve people would have fresh produce.
  • A monthly gift of $25 would mean that 125 people would have protein options in their grocery bag.

The Breakdown
Here’s the math – one grocery day budget is $3700
  • The break down is $1,000 on produce
  • Milk $1,200
  • Protein options $1,500
By making a donation you’ll help to feed the people who need it most. All donations assist to fill the shelves with fresh and varied selections.
