HIV Prevention & Awareness Programs aim to educate and empower communities in the fight against HIV/AIDS and HIV/AIDS related stigma and stereotyping. We recognize that information is key towards understanding and acceptance.

What We Can Offer You

Our HIV Prevention & Awareness educators specialize in facilitating a number of workshops that are tailored to meet the unique needs of the diverse communities with which we work.On-going research, evaluation and feedback ensure that AIDS Vancouver courses and workshop materials are always relevant, informative and engaging.

Our Range of Prevention and Awareness Services Education

Our workshops offer education and materials that are informative, accurate, comprehensive and easy to understand. We engage our learners with a variety of teaching tools and techniques. We encourage our learners to participate to their full potential by providing a learning environment that is professional, interactive, friendly and non-judgmental.

Outreach

We table at events and information fairs in and around Vancouver in order to increase public awareness of HIV/AIDS-related issues. We also offer free pamphlets and safer sex supplies such as male and female condoms.

Prevention Team Workshops

The following 2 hour workshops are designed to meet the needs of your classroom.

AIDS Vancouver Prevention Workshop

HIV/AIDS-The Basics: This workshop provides learners with the basics of HIV prevention, transmission and testing. Information and activities regarding the social determinants of health and the harmful impact of HIV stigma and discrimination is also available upon request.

Hepatitis C-The Basics: This workshop provides learners with the basics of HCV prevention, transmission and testing. This workshop also touches on living with HCV and HIV/HCV co-infection. Information and activities regarding the social determinants of health and the harmful impact of HCV stigma and discrimination is also available upon request.

STI/STDs-The Basics: This workshop provides learners with the basics on sexually transmitted infections. Information and activities on how to talk “safer sex” with your partner (s) is also included upon request.

HIV & Social Justice Issues: Focuses on HIV/AIDS and social justice issues in Canada and around the world. Using case studies, learners will be encouraged to think critically about HIV/HCV in relation to issues of racism, discrimination and criminalization.

Train the Trainer Workshops

These new workshops are geared towards groups and individuals who are interested in increasing both their knowledge and understanding of HIV/AIDS and HIV/AIDS related issues and their ability to successfully pass this information on to others.

Participants will learn valuable facilitation skills so that they will better equipped to become active leaders on HIV/AIDS related issues in their communities, workplaces, schools & organizations.

Our facilitators will provide these intensive workshops at your institution or you can book one in our training room at 1107 Seymour Street.
