AIDS Vancouver's 2010 Complete Wellness Fairs

Encouraging the physical and emotional wellbeing of PHAs everywhere!

Be a part of AIDS Vancouver’s FREE Complete Wellness Fairs throughout 2010.
All participants will receive FREE:  health kit, samples, food, information, access to a wide variety of services, music and entertainment.

The Complete Wellness Fairs will consist of five separate information fairs providing a forum where PHAs can learn about ASOs and other health services. Each fair focuses on a specific theme around wellness and how it is affected by long term ARV use. These wellness fairs are a “one stop shop” for PHA’s, ASO’s and other health related organizations to engage in direct and relevant information exchange. 

The Complete Wellness Fairs are on Tuesdays from 1-4pm, five times through out the year.

Wellness Fair April 13, 2010 - Encouraging the physical and emotional wellbeing of PHAs living long-term with HAART treatment and providing nutritional, pharmaceutical, counseling information from ASOs and other organizations geared towards offering these services. On-site masseurs will be available to offer 15 minute relaxing neck and shoulder massages as a way of encouraging the importance of stress relieving self care activities for all round health.  

Appearance Fair June 15, 2010- Discussions of common issues of PHAs around physical appearance. Doctors, health care providers, dermatologists, cosmetic surgeons, and makeup artists will be invited to provide talks on lipodistrophy, dental information, dress and appearance. On-site hairdressers and beauticians will be available to offer trims and provide hair, make-up and clothing consultation.

Social Connectedness August 17, 2010 - Providing PHAs with information on personal relationships, disclosure and criminalization info, advocacy programs at ASOs and tenants rights. These fairs will provide a safe space for marginalized PHAs to come together on key issues that impact their lives. They will also be provided with the necessary resources for letter writing campaigns, support groups and counseling. Finally, a short one hour skills-building workshop on employment seeking strategies and resume building will be provided for interested participants.

Faith and Spirituality October 19, 2010 - Speakers and interested faith groups in the city will be contacted to talk to PHAs about the various programs and support groups they have on offer and ways in which PHAs could meaningfully participate in them. Both a yoga class and a workshop on meditation and relaxations strategies will be provided for interested participants.

Aging December 7, 2010 (Tentative) - Speakers and organizations will be invite to attend to discuss topics such as healthy eating, injury prevention, physical activity, smoking cessation and social connectedness with specific focus on seniors. Information and discussions relating to palliative care and senior residential facilities for PHAs will be provided. Doctors and pharmacists would also be invited to discuss the impact of various drug commonly associated with aging and their compatibility with ARV treatment and the effects of HAART on aging.
