I would like to know if I have to leave personal info such as name and home address if I want to take the test. I have heard there is a fast sputum test for HIV, the result can be seen in 30 mins. Is that true? If yes, does the testing site provide this kind of test?
Hello,
Thanks for using AIDS Vancouver as your source for HIV/AIDS related information. Sorry for the delay in responding to your query!
First off, you do NOT have to leave personal information with regard to taking an HIV test. There are many clinics that do NON-NOMINAL or anonymous testing. Please visit the following link on the www.aidsvancouver.org website with regard to testing locations in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland:
http://www.aidsvancouver.org/info/testing/testsites
As far as the Fast Sputum test. I contacted the BCCDC (British Columbia Centre for Disease Control) and they only know this test as an Orasure Test that is specifically used by insurance agencies to insure clients. This is NOT a test currently being used in Vancouver and area.
There is information with regard to a Point Of Care test (Rapid) on various posts already on this board.
Should you require further, please feel free to contact us again here at AIDS Vancouver Helpline/Online.

Mike Fraser
